I tell them about certain strategies being used, technology tips, Google Add-ons that have been implemented, etc. I refer them to the teacher whose classroom I was just in. Besides giving them praise when I was in the room, the praise continues when their colleagues come to see what new way they are using technology or casually mention my conversation in the teacher's lounge. This action greatly enhances the school environment. Having worked for different building principals, I have personally noticed teachers responding to the different principals due to the amount of positive communication the teachers have had with the different principals. When an administrator feels genuine appreciation for what a teacher is doing, it's easy to provide praise. It is important to give praise for specific action as general praise can come across as patronizing. The same is true for the praise teachers give students, as research shows. Anything you say at faculty meetings is not likely to have much of an impact. Thanks for the insightful educational nugget among the many political Tweets. This is way more thoughtful.Douglas W.
